FAQ

What insurance(s) do you accept?

I am in network with Blue Care Network (BCN) and Blue Cross/Blue Shield (BCBS),  however, I am not a contract provider for Blue Cross Complete products.  I also will work with individuals who want to pay out of pocket. Self-pay rates can be provided upon request.

I have an insurance other than BCN or BCBS. Will you bill my insurance as an out of network provider?

I do not bill insurances as an out-of-network provider.  If you wish to use your out-of-network benefit, you will need to submit your own claims for services.  I can provide itemized statements as needed.

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, check, and credit/debit/FSA/HSA cards for out of pocket expenses. I can take Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express.

What are your office hours?

I am in the office Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm. I do not have evening or Saturday availability and also have more limited availability during school breaks (e.g., Winter Break, Summer Break, etc).

What is your policy about late cancellations/missed appointments?

I charge $100 for a missed appointment.  This fee is due prior to or at our next scheduled session and insurance does not cover this fee.  I do not charge for late cancellations, but reserve the right to refer individuals out of my practice who abuse my policy not to charge for late cancellations.  (Please refer to my Informed Consent for Psychotherapy for more details.)

How long are therapy sessions?

The first appointment is usually 45 minutes to an hour.  Follow up sessions range in time from as little as 20 minutes to as long as 55 minutes.  The typical therapy session is 45 to 55 minutes and varies based on your needs for that day.

How long before I should notice an improvement?

Research suggests that individuals typically notice improvement after six to eight sessions of therapy (meaning six to eight sessions after the intake appointment.)  Some notice improvement sooner. An important aspect of therapy is to evaluate progress along the way to ensure that it is beneficial and helpful to you. If we are finding that therapy is not helpful in the timeframe we would expect, we will have a discussion about options or recommendations for next steps.

How long are people in therapy?

Some people are in treatment for six sessions; some for six months; some for six years or more.  The length of treatment depends on the individual and varies based on diagnosis and treating provider’s clinical orientation.  I specialize in short-term treatment so therefore most people are in treatment with me on average for three to six months and occasionally more.
